Dr. Mak was born in Hong Kong and moved to Canada when she was a young child. Growing up she was fascinated with animals of all shapes and sizes and found herself caring for stray cats and wild birds.
She started volunteering at small animal clinics in Toronto during her teen years and fell in love with the profession. At her vet school admission interview at the Ontario Veterinary College she told the interviewers the reason why she wanted to be a vet is because she knows there is so much she can do to help the animals. She finds working at veterinary clinics to be very rewarding as she gets to spend time with pets and form relationships with the owners.
After working as an associate with Dr. Hill for 4 years she purchased the Bloormill Veterinary Hospital in 2016. In her spare time, Dr. Mak enjoys playing volleyball, making wood furniture and throwing pottery. She also loves outdoor activities like camping, canoeing and hiking. Her pets include a Boston Terrier named TaterTot and a cat named Maya.

As a kid, Dr. Amanda was always fascinated by animals and even imagined that she could understand what they were thinking and saying! She doesn’t remember a time when she didn’t want to be a veterinarian.
In 2018, Dr. Amanda fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving across the world, after relocating to the beautiful country of Ireland for vet school! She graduated from University College Dublin in 2022, and although she misses the Irish lifestyle, she is so happy to be back home and serving her home area of the GTA. Dr. Amanda’s favorite part of being a vet is being able to help owners understand what their animals are going through, and share in that bond.
When Dr. Amanda isn’t cuddling clients’ pets, she is at home with her own two fur babies, Alfie the Mini Schnauzer and Marty the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel! In her free time, Dr. Amanda enjoys trying new foods, traveling to new countries, reading books, and spending time with friends and loved ones.

Technician
Kate is one of our veterinary technicians at BloorMill Veterinary Hospital.
Kate decided to be a tech after her own puppy, Finn, ended up in an emergency hospital at 9 weeks old with parvo! To this day, she still remembers the technician who took care of Finn, who told her family that she sat with Finn and brought him toys so he would feel better. As a pet owner, this tech made Kate feel better about Finn being all on his own and she wanted to do that for someone and their pet someday.
In 2020, that dream came true for Kate as she enrolled in Sheridan College's Veterinary Technician program and graduated in July, 2022! Finn is now 4 and healthy and she couldn't be more grateful for that technician who gave her dog love when she couldn't be there for him.
When she started at Sheridan, she had never worked in a clinic before but during school, she had 4 co-op placements and she has come a long way from when she first started.
She feels incredibly lucky that she ended up at BloorMill for her final semester of co-op. The team at BloorMill is incredible! The kindness that is shown to everyone here, makes working here feel much less like work.
In Kate’s free time, you can usually find her reading or with horses, sometimes both. Both are her passions and help her unwind after a long day.
